08 MUGELLO GP and Northern Italy

I just found out that I'll be attending this year's Mugello GP (woohoo!) and am soliciting advice from anyone who has experience in the area with lodging, travel, must-see sights, and/or any other tips about cruising through northern and central Italy.

I plan on being there for the week prior and the week after the GP, with most of the travels being done by rail pass. However I am also considering renting a M/C or car for at least the weekend of the race.
