3/16/2008 Shasta Ride
A friend and I went for a short tour of the Redding/Shasta Lake, California area last Sunday. Beautiful day for a ride, once we got started. Funny how long it takes to get gas, air up the tires and finally get down the road.
100 miles of twisty's, with a nice break at Outback before riding out to Shasta Damn.
I have included pics. Notice the shiny new HM my friend rides... less than 250 miles on that one. The twisty's we rode kept him under that 6000 rpm mark, barely!!!
For those of you who are curious and can actually see the background that is Shasta Damn, Shasta Lake and in the distance, Mount Shasta.

Roads were clear, unless in town...Otherwise we had all the pavement to ourselves.

I was in Weaverville in 2004 for the annual ST owners rally. Great riding area. Thanks for the photos.
From the photos I saw earlier this year on the Dunsmuir webcam, you folks got hit with a lot of snow this winter.

glad to hear that you have dug out from the drifted snow. I keep hearing Hwy 36 calling. Red Bluff to Fortuna and back. maybe we can get a norcal get-together happening this spring

Living out in the country has it's benefits and drawbacks. Now that I am dug out, I have mud to deal with. Go figure. I opted to trailer my Duc out to avoid having a bike that resembled something fresh out of the dirt bike race at Indy a few weeks back. Oddly enough, I still have 2-3' of snow in the yard.
The route we have been talking about is 299 to Eureka, north to Crescent City- Grants Pass- Medford - back South to Mt. Shasta/Redding Etc. We have access to a place in Crescent City for those who want to do a stay over before the trip back. Something we have been tossing around. 36 to the coast would be equally as cool. Stopping off to have some good seafood on the coast would really make it a special trip.
A spring Norcal ride is definitely in order!!!

Been talking about doing that on Superbikes since last year. I was hoping to be well enough to do it this year, we will see. I mentioned it to three other guys and they all want to go. I figure it will be two nights out max. We were thinking of trailering our bikes from Sacto to Red Bluff to avoid the long boring slab and associated cramps then dropping them in Red Bluff for the twisty ride to the coast then up to Eureka. I don't know about going back, we will figure something out. Today would have been an awesome day, man is the weather beautiful right now! Couple of the guys have the iron butt ability and insisted on me taking the 916 instead of the 999. They are on a 748R, 996 and another 916. I said no way, I'll take the bike that is least likely to have a failure, which is the 999 because its newer and the fact the seating is adjustable and just plain more comfortable. I'm looking forward to doing this in a big way and hope I'm well enough to pull it off. By then we will probably have 15 bikes, who knows.

I am game. Went for another, shorter ride on Sunday 3/22. Because it was Easter and I was trying to be good. I have also mentioned this ride to fellow riders. Some shy away from 36 because of gravel and blind corners. If we get a good group together, could be fun. The guys I ride with are not Ducati centric, and include everything from ZX10's to CBR1000's. Also, very capable riders to beginners. All are welcome in our group, hope you do not mind. All in all, 6-8 more to add to your list.
I might be riding out to Santa Rosa, then Sears point Monday/Tuesday. A buddy is having his first tune-up done on his HM, and we wanted to tie it into a long ride. They have AMA checking out the track next week and getting in is free to those who want to watch them experiment with set-ups.
How is recovery? What time frame are you looking at?
I posted some pics of our most recent ride. Just a stop over at the Taco Shack in Anderson. Couldn't help and post pics of 2 of the new pups, aren't they cute?

Name those puppies "Desmo" and "Corse" and enter that photo in the Ducati.MS Bike of the Month forum. http://www.ducati.ms/forums/115-ducati-ms-bike-month/
We have opened entries to children and pets with Ducati names since no bikes have ever been worthy enough to have been chosen BOTM since the forum was started.

Spring has passed JB and still no hgwy 36 ride. My plan was more towards the end of the year, maybe during Indian Summer, that would be perfect weatherwise. I just hope I'll be ready by then, but I want to keep this ride idea alive. I know it will happen, I can't wait it will be a blast.
