Ride to Stevens Pass

Today I headed north on I-5 for a ride until I noticed that the southbound lanes through Everett were at a standstill and backed way up. I did not want to sit through that on my way home, so I made a quick change of plans and headed east on US 2.

I rode to the summit of Stevens Pass, remained there long enough to take some photos, then headed back home. The Cascades received a record amount of snow this January and both I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass and US 2 over Stevens Pass were closed several times due to avalances. Stevens Pass is the site of the Wellington Disaster, the worst avalance disaster in North America.

Enclosed below are some photos. Chuckracer could be be in them if he would move back here :>)

On the way home I made a brief stop at the old railroad town of Skykomish to take some train photos. I got back in the Seattle area in time for the 5:00 rush, made all the more dangerous because it is the time of year when the sun is setting almost straight west. Bad news if you are heading west as I was that time of day.

The advantage of a career in federal law enforcement: mandatory retirement at age 57, which translates into weekday rides :>)

It was sunny and the road was dry in most places. Fellow PNW Ducatisti Bong rode his Multistrada up there one day in January a few years ago when the road was frosted over. Now that is crazy!

Very impressive. The photos are cool but I am so impressed and envious that you get out and ride when most of us would not. I may be older but you are my role model
