Ducs & weekends go together
My buddy Bob, owner of a fastest color 996, invited my son Daren and me on a Saturday evening ride to Mt. Erie outside of Anacortes. The views east towards Mt. Baker and south towards Puget Sound and the Olympic Mts. are stunning. I have attached one photo of the view south.
Today Daren and I rode to Port Angeles to meet up with Mark Hollingsworth, rider of a Multistrada. Our original plan was to ride to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park. We ran into a mist on the way to Port Angeles and the tops of the Olympic Mts. were shrouded in clouds, which is quite ironic as the rest of the west is suffering through record heat.
I was not going to pay the park entry fee to view fog, so we bagged the ride to Hurricane Ridge and opted for some of Mark's favorite back roads west of Port Angeles. I have attached two photos from Crescent Beach. You can see Vancouver Island, Canada, across the Strait of Juan De Fuca in one of the photos.

Awesome, it looks like you two had a great time! Nothing better than looking forward to the weekend knowing that riding is all I need to get done.

The heat wave currently visiting the west has led to an unusually long string of sunny days in the Seattle area. We have to ride while the sun shines.

Another Sunday....
another ride. Today Daren and I explored some roads on the Kitsap Penninsula with Frank, a former STealth 02-ST4s owner who now rides a Beemer.
Enclosed are some photos I took at DeWatto, which is a few houses on a bay beside Hood Canal, an arm of Puget Sound. Across Hood Canal are the Olympic Mts., which don't have much snow this time of year. The stuff on the beach which looks like white rocks are discarded oyster shells. I suspect the old wooden framing on the beach is the remnants of a commercial oyster bed.
DeWatto is home to some interesting birdlife. About a dozen Great Blue herons were wading in the low tide looking for fish. There was also some type of marine bird which made its nest in holes hollowed out of the exposed sand face of a bluff behind us. The birds would carry something in their mouths from the water to holes in the bluff. I also saw a King Fisher in a tree beside the road.

For the ornithologists among us, the bird book identified the bluff dwelling waterfowl as Pigeon Guillemot. They were very amusing to watch as they flew between the bluff and the bay.

Bill, always good to read your ride reports. sounds like retirement is agreeing with you. keep busy, last weekend I went to a memorial service for a family friend that had just retired 4 months ago. some folks seem like they have nothing left to do when they retire. I've got another 5 years or so...
if it rains too much for you, you can come back down to the heat of Calif. maybe you can herd some rain this way! You can't take the heat, and I couldn't take your rain.
The salmon are running in the Feather river now, enough to see them jumping out of the water as I cross on my way to work. I'll try to get some on the water shots tomorrow after work. taking the kayak out for an after work paddle. one way to beat the heat!

I couldn't take your California heat when I was living in Sacramento in my 20's; I certainly can't take it now that I am in my 50's.
Have fun with the kayak. When I lived in Sacramento, one of my train watching buddies and I used to go up to Keddie to watch the trains pass over the famous Keddie Wye bridge. I just saw a kayaker this afternoon while my son and I were in at our favorite train watching spot above Puget Sound in Edmonds.

Only those giant Asian catfish in Illinois do that.

Right in my backyard Bill (almost literally). I am always stunned by that view looking south.
Thanks for sharing.
