San Diego County Day Trip/Tour [56K Beware!!]

Took some friends along on one of my favorite rides yesterday, started in the MiraMesa area of San Diego, east out to Julian for lunch. Some turned back at that point, while 4 bikes pushed north to Borrego Springs, then back up Montezuma Grade, over Palomar, and finally home to San Diego again.

Temps ranged from 55 to just under 90, I took a friend along for a first time motorcycle experience. She (like myself) is a 3-4 year "newbie" to Southern California, so she had never seen any of these roads. She came away with a very positive outlook on motorcycling in general, whereas she had slight nagging doubts as to motorcyclists' ability to "follow the rules".

Anyway, here are some shots:

Pictures are in reverse order, beginning of the ride at the end, if you know what I mean, and yes, I do have a bar-end mirror, I like it better than the stockers.

I really liked the picture of the passing of the SUV on the double yellow lines. Other than that looks like a fun trip.

Yeah, that was a very seldom breaking of my personal rule of no passing on double yellows, but the guy was waving me past on each straight-away for about a mile, and running really close to the edge of the road trying to get me to pass him, even with me hanging back 5-6 car lengths further than I normally do, so I just decided it would be safer for all parties to move beyond.

Ah, yeah, that was a little impromptu ride to get ice cream after we were at The Tap Room in PB for MotoGP.

What a fun ride! I've taken the 78 thru Santa Ysabel, then make a left and head past Lake Henshaw down to Borrego Springs. Banner Grade (?) I think it's called. Thought my bike was doing a good clip, then got passed by a Ducati with a female passenger on board! *gulp*

That is called Banner Grade. Montezuma Grade is the one west of Borrego Springs.

When did that happen? Was it possibly me? What day did you do that ride? I remember passing quite a few bikes that day and was leading the ride, so I'd have been the first to pass you.
