Pelican Run II
Three of us from the Seattle area met up with the Oregon Ducs (Paul Geller and Mark Turbo) Saturday for a run through Oregon's Coast Range to the Pelican Pub and Brewery in Pacific City. Mark and Don (Beemer rider) rode back to Portland while Paul, Randy (Honda VTX rider) and I spent the night in Pacific City and returned home Sunday via Hwy. 229 and the Upper Siletz Road.
As with any ride with Paul, we put in the obligatory unpaved miles on those weird Oregon roads which have a mile of gravel splicing nice miles of pavement. One "high" light of the trip was a stop at a remote vista at a summit of the Oregon Coast Range. The twisties down the west side were made interesting by tree debris on the road and having to duck under trees which had fallen across the road this winter.
There were a few Wild Kingdom moments as Mark parted a herd of elk and Randy nearly hit a coyote crossing the road in front of him. The weather was good and I was 5 miles short of a 700 mile weekend as I rolled into my driveway Sunday night.

Here are a few more photos. I have that problem of not wanting to stop to take pictures when I am on really good sections of road, espicially when I am with a group.

Looks like you guys have fun on the edge of this great country. Keep the reports coming. I'm planning my first long trip on my Ducati for next month.

Here is some video Randy the VTX guy took. You will see either Mark Turbo (with rear topcase) or Paul Geller in the video ahead of Randy. The video ends at summit lookout in the photos above.

After viewing the video, scroll up and click on Ride Report for more details about the first day of the ride.
Coming up: Spring Break in Lewiston IV, 4/27-30/07. Mark says he has been practising a new kareoke number as a followup to his hit of last year, "House of the Rising Sun".

Search around Randy's Northwest Bikers website to see more videos of riding in the PNW.
I thought that after I retired I would be doing a lot more mid week riding, but riding in the Seattle area has lost its allure due to the heavily congested roads. I now prefer quality over quantity and live for 3-4 day road trips to Eastern Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Very nice Bill. Overnight rides like this on roads not seen, or seen less frequently, are commonly among the more memorable. Nice seeing those three ST's lined up.

As is the comaraderie of a nice dinner with your riding buddies at the end of the day.
