Southwest Ride...Suggestions?
Two of us are planning a 3 week road trip from Ottawa Ontario down into the Southwest next September. We are in the early stages of planning the trip and have been checking out the posts on rides to get ideas on interesting routes down /back and while we are there. Not only do we need to plan the trip but I gotta find a set of wheels to handle the ride! B.T.W. that ride report from Vivid1 was fantastic, what a trip. Thanks Anna, the timing of your submission was perfect. For example I was wondering if it would make sense to head south to Virginia and get in a bit of the Skyline or Blueridge and then heading west for Dallas and then on into New Mexico. If anyone else has a suggestion for must ride roads or places to eat/sleep, I'd be grateful.
Thanks

The area around the Capitol Reef National Park near Torrey, Utah is great. I believe there are some photos of the area in Anna's thread. This was the site of the first ST owners rally in 2003.

If you all are heading thru Abilene TX on I-20, there is a place here to spend the night for y'all. Call a day ahead on my mobile if you can. Mobile via PM. It would be cool to meet some list members.

If you head into Arizona, you should take highway 191 from Alpine to Morenci. It is a serious road with countless switchbacks. It is in the eastern part of the state in the White Mountains........perfect place to be in the summer.

Get thee an ST! Attached are photos of the Burr Trail Road through the Capitol Reef National Park taken by Paul Geller at the first ST owners rally at Torrey, Utah in June, 2003. We are returning for the 5th annual rally in 2007. Nothing says US Southwest like these photos!

191 (old 666) makes "the dragon" look like a short track. 1100 turns in 90 miles.
