Black Friday 2011

I needed to get out of the house and clear my head a little.

Cool video. I didn't know there were any parts of Route 66 remaining.

What was the name of the ghost town at the 2:00 mark? I couldn't hear you because of the wind.

sorry about the wind, it's Amboy, CA. kind of a modern day ghost town.

there are bits and pieces of 66 still there. Officially the western terminus is at the Santa Monica Pier, zigs and zags eastward until it gets to Foothill Blvd in Azusa. The parts I was on are here: Cajon Blvd to Amboy, CA - Google Maps I place marker B where the video shows the painted sign on the ground.

As a kid in the 60's I made sure to watch Tod and Buzz cruise Route 66 every Friday night.

The show's theme song, composed by Nelson Riddle and played by his orchestra, still sticks in my mind.

I used to love that show! That Corvette was my first dream machine.

I was visiting my grandparents in Portland, OR in the summer of 1961 or 1962 while an episode of Route 66 was being filmed in the area. I saw an auto-carrier containing several of the show's 'Vettes parked in a lot in downtown Portland. I kept hoping I would run into Tod or Buzz. To a 'Tween, they were the coolest guys around.

Thanks to the TV show, the 'Vette was my first dream car as well. When I was in the 7th grade, a salesman visiting my father's office gave me a ride in his new '63 Stingray. It was the first of the "new style" 'Vettes with retractable headlights and a fast back with a split rear window.
