The Colors.. the Colors... Peaking in Asheville
I haven’t seen this many wonderful colors since I did some particularly smooth "Orange Sunshine" at quasi-memorable Pink Floyd concert at Atlanta’s Braves Stadium back in 1972.. It’s breathtaking around here..(FYI.. I live in Asheville, NC) in virtually every direction. I can honestly say.. it’s the prettiest fall I have EVER seen...
Yesterday the traffic was so bad on all surrounding roads that after an hour of fighting it I came home.. Today was a different story and I have no idea why.. The local paper proclaimed the leaves are peaking this weekend so I kinda figured it would be a madhouse on the BRPW and nearby scenic roads like Hwy 151, but it wasn’t bad at all.. I probably didn’t pass more than a 3 dozen cars all day.. While the local yokel weatherman predicted rain all day and a high of 58 today.. it was sunny and 65-67! ..
I took a few more shots.. thought I’d share.. The last pic is a colorful shot of some property Amber and I just bought on a nearby mountain....Enjoy.

I've been here in the mountains about 4 years now and have only seen one bear... right in the middle of a curve.. dead center apex while I was on my MV Agusta at full tilt.. locked up front and rear.. went sideways but didn't hit the bear or go down... Scared the bear so bad it jumped straight up and I swear.. it s#@& in the middle of the road... A heart stopping moment for us both..
Most of the critters don't come out until after dusk...

I had something similar happen in Mt. St. Helens National Park. Came around a corner and there was a bear in the middle of the road. Hot summer day, mid afternoon. He just sat and looked at me as I approached with brakes full on.
I knew I couldn't turn that damn superbike around quickly (turning radius of a supertanker). I worried that if I came to a stop and he charged I was going to be happy to be wearing leathers and a helmet. So I just ran wide to the left, he scampered to the right, and we both had stories to tell.

Great photos. Autumn is my favorite season, but we don't get those awesome colors up here in the PNW.

Hwy 215 on the north side of the BRP parkway was beautiful two weekends ago. The Whitewater Falls area of SC/NC is just starting to turn colors, so that area should be excellent in the next week or two (Hwy 130/281, north of Salem, SC and south of Sapphire, NC). Northern Georgia is looking pretty nice, too. The views from the overlooks on Hwy 348 (Richard Russel Parkway) are looking pretty good on Saturday (north of Helen, GA).
