I went to a BMW rally this past weekend in Canadensis, PA in the Poconos. Friday was a slab ride down just after the rain passed thru.
The temps were cool and Saturday morning saw the sun trying it's best but the temps in the 40's. I put together a nice little ride. PA 447 to PA 191 to Hancock, NY then NY 97 to Port Jervis, NY and thru the Delaware Water Gap to Dingman's Ferry and local roads back to Canadensis, PA.
PA 447 is a great little road. It got the blood flowing while warming both me and the tires. PA 191 was a great rural road. Not as technical but good for some higher speeds. I stopped in Hancock, NY and I drank a coffee and prayed for the Sun to come out. NY 97 was great ride along the Delaware River.
The river was high, fast and muddy. I'm told this is not the usual Delaware. It certainly brought out the rafters for a ride thru the rapids.
I stopped in Hawks Nest, my first time there, and watched the northbound sportbikes and cruisers. The Sun finally gave up and the drizzle started. How I wished that bar/diner never burned down.
In Port Jervis, NY a cup of soup and a warm sandwich was very welcome. From there I rode thru the Delaware Water Gap on River Road and Old Mine Road. I've been there before and still enjoy the trip back in time. After crossing the toll bridge at Dingman's Ferry I took monstly local roads back to Canadensis. Wow! I was grinning ear to ear on the tight twisties thru the forest. Even a live deer and dead cougar on the roadside made the memories better.
The ride was just about 200 miles and maybe 4 hours. Best of all I was back, with a cold six-pack of local beer just before the downpour. It was a good day!
Sunday was still raining but warmer so a slab ride home was in order. But first a ride on PA 390 from Canadensis thru Promised Land State Park to I-84. Another great Pocono road. I'll be going back some day.
