I've been riding in Southern California, mostly commuting, for several years. My pleasure rides have mostly been freeway blasts at off hours (little to no traffic) to some of the larger canyon roads (malibu canyon, topanga, kanan, ACH) and some points in between. Recently, I've been spending more time up on "the snake."
For those of you not familiar, the Snake is a 8-9 mile stretch of intermediate to advanced technical mountain curves along Mulholland Hwy in the Agoura Hills/Malibu area of Los Angeles. the first half from the south is newly paved and the second half is still great condition tarmac with some of the best southern california/santa monica mountain scenery and perhaps best curves for the mostly skilled riders (me not included)..
check out the following youtube search link to see some great videos of cautionary tales from the snake..
