The Blue Junk Monkey Tour

I'm going to try to post this tale live. Well, sort of. I will update it while on the road, time and cell service permitting. Please excuse the cell phone camera photo quality.

And so begins the tale of the two who just had to ride no matter what the weather may bring.

Wednesday evening things do not look too good. But better today than tomorrow, when we leave. *Hopefully all this will be gone by tomorrow morning.*

More to come.....

It's just us two Crosby boys out for a little ride to the hill country. Anyone out and about in the Fredricksburg/Leakey area this weekend who sees a couple of red ST's you're welcome to fall in.

It may be dirty, but it's hard to wash while riding!

I'm going to be leaving home in just little while to drive across town and meet up with Jack. It's still cloudy and the roads are wet but it's a lot better than the storms we had yesterday. We got about 3" of rain and a lot of very close lightning strikes. It looks like it should b clearing up the further west we get. Temps are a sultry 65 right now. Yuk!

But first things first! Breakfast

Today Jackflash and I meet where he works to try and get across town early. When i got there Jack was woofing down some breakfast tacos and we had to check out the dvr and camera setup on Jacks bike. Dual cameras one front and one rear.*

We packed the electric riding gear knowing the hill country was going to be cold and headed West hoping to make Fredericksburg by dark. It was strangely *warm when we left. About 70 or so but we expect to see near or below freezing mornings over the weekend.*

The worst part of most trips for us *is getting across Houston. We live on the East side and the best roads are out West. *It's best to crank up some good music, set the Throttlemeister on about 90 (to keep up with traffic) and get through the first 100 miles of no man's land as quickly as possible.

We did pretty good until we got to Buda. We filled up the bikes and noticed gas leaking from under Jacks bike. A fuel line had got up against the exhaust pipe and burned through. We found an auto parts store and got a length of tubing to splice the line.*

Not far from here we went through Wimberly. We were toodling along at 25 mph and this cop on a bike did a u turn and pulls us over. We are like "WTF". We were told there was reports called in about two red bikes traveling at high speed and passing everything on the road. The reports were very detailed describing pretty much exactly what we were wearing. After a while we convinced them (by this time there were two of them) it must have been someone that looked like us. Afterall were just a couple of old farts.

Glad to hear you got Jack's bike sorted out. Does he have the filter outside the tank?
Maybe the cops watched the you tube "birthday" ride and were gunning for ya.

Ride safe, keep the reports coming.

Got up this morning in Fredericksburg and it was nice. 50 degrees and mostly clear.*

We had breakfast in the coolest little out the way pastry shop I've ever seen.*

But they sure do have strange ideas for Christmas tree ornaments.*

Gita go. Later.

I guess the live reporting thing kinda fell by the way side. Hey, New Year's eve makes it really hard to type on a little phone keyboard! But we did make it to Leakey. I had to stop on 337 just as it comes into town. I forget the name of this little creek but it's so beautiful. The phone camera doesn't do it justice.

When we rolled into town the place was vacant. There was no one there. We had the Hog Pen all to ourselves. It was great! Anyway the beer was good and the guy running the place had the smoker going with a bunch of briskets smoking and it smelled wonderful. We stayed at the Frio Canyon Inn across the street from the Pen.

Remember the threads about all the Harley hate? The guys that run this place are bikers. They love bikes and talking about riding. Great people.

After riding the Sisters (if you don't know read about them here: The Three Sisters - Ranch Roads 335, 336, & 337a: Texas Motorcycle Rides) we pulled into another of the primarily cruiser hang outs. It's called the Bent Rim and they have a "wall of honor" like the tree at Deal's Gap. Check out the expensive "non-cruiser" plastic hanging on the wall

And then it was time to go home...
