Most riders will notice the firmness of the internal liner when putting on a Suomy helmet for the first time. This is done based on Suomy’s philosophy that, by placing the rider’s head as close as possible to the EPS foam liner, the head will travel through less space before it comes into contact with the crash management materials of the helmet. Upon impact with a hard object, Suomy argues that this design minimizes the head’s acceleration within the helmet as much as possible. While the internal liner is relatively thin when compared to other helmets on the market, the Italian company still manages to produce a comfortable helmet. This same design method also makes the Spec 1R Extreme one of the lightest helmets we have yet to see. This Suomy helmet comes straight out of the box with an IR-reflective visor which keeps the rider’s face cool in bright sunlight and includes an anti-fog coating.
