Considering a used 1198 S
Hi guys,
I'm not new to ducati, but recently I've been pondering trading out my trusty 2001 996 for a newer 2009-model 1198 S with about 2700kms on it.
Glad to be onboard!

Well it's something I'm considering. I've had the 996 for some time now, and compared to the 1198 S it just feels heavy and unwieldy. Still has charm and appearance though.
Let's just say I'm not fully decided yet :-) I did put in "considering" a used 1198 S :-)
Pics of the 996 are attached.

very nice, you know you can fix that heavy feeling with different offset triples, change the steering head angle and crank the back up a bit, mine is now on a par with the fastest steering bikes i've ever riden. hard to beat the power of the 1198 though

Don't sell your 996... It's not worth much now, it can only appreciate with time.. And you'll love to own the both at the same time as they look like generations of the same bike. Do buy the 1198s as it promises to be the best Street bike from Ducati you can buy for a long time... If you consider how much less power the 1199 will make under 7.5k rpm (110 for 1199 vs 140 for 1198!!!) you can really see how the 1198s AA the best of its generation, may end up being the most enjoyable Ducati superbike before things went bonkers.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll sure consider it. I've made an offer to the seller on the 1198S now, and if he takes it I'll keep my 996 - at least for the summer to see if I'll actually use both. I do love the old 996, but if I end up never using I'd rather someone else did :-)
About 1199 vs. 1198 I think it's hard to tell where that takes us. I sat on the bike a little while back when it was here in Denmark on a promo tour. Felt quite a bit steeper than the 1198 and I could never quite appreciate the design. While I don't understand the technical aspects of the under belly exhaust I like the old design better. Sitting both the bikes and walking around they didn't "feel" different in weight either. The feel of the bike is a lot more important than the numbers for me :-) I don't think I'll ever be near exploiting even 170 horses. Seeing as a new 1199 S in Denmark is about €64.000 and I can have the used 1198 S for a bit more than half that it seemed like a no-brainer to me to select between the two.

Yea, I guess free healthcare is nice.. But I'd rather move to Switzerland or somewhere where you're not taxed so high and own both (although, I'll admit your Danish women are damn hot!!!!)
