998R in Slidell, LA

Sorry guys, I posted an intro yesterday and it got pulled. My mistake. I'm Bruce from Slidell, Louisiana and I am the new owner of a 2002 998R. I'm an engineer for NASA at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. The bike looks fabulous with only a couple cosmetic problems. The headlights had a layer of dust inside them. I disassembled the lights and cleaned all of that up. Is this a common issue with the Ducatis? I couldn't see an obvious source of the dust.

Touch up paint is the other issue. I've been reading the threads on this and there sure is a variety of opinions on the subject. Matching paint looks tough.

Thanks everybody,

Bruce

Welcome Bruce! Nice R bike you have there, it's a beauty. I can see the areas needing touch up in the photos: if you want a little container of Red basecoat to help give you a start point for matching, shoot me and email and we can work out the details on shipping you a free sample. I have several versions of Ducati red color matches that I have had formulated over the years, and like you mentioned, it is always a challenege to get the right shade Red.

Thanks Dan. I may well be contacting you for paint. I will be taking more pictures including close ups of the trouble spots and reading more on how to handle the chips. I sure don't want to damage these carbon fiber panels.
