Helping friend with 1962. 200cc single
A friend has recently acquired a restored Duc. He is experiencing problems engaging 3rd and 4 th gears. With his heel and toe shifter, he must carefully rock the shifter slightly back and forth to gain engagement. Once engaged, the box works fine with NO tendency to hop out of gear. Badly worn dogs or bent forks may be present, but do not seem to be the primary problem.
Selecting 1st 2nd and neutral is smooth and consistent.
The problem appears to be getting proper alignment of the gear selector fork picking up the dog on the face of the shifter drum. However, this is just a guess.
I am trying to better understand the role of part number 160, which is some form of an eccentric bolt.
I am an old Brit singles guy with 50 years rebuilding bikes and know there is always a wealth of worn parts in these old bikes. I've not stripped the gearbox and have no immediate plans to do so. But I would like to try and see if there is first an adjustment. But I have not found a workshop manual that explains the eccentric and it's role.
Might someone here help me?
Thanks in advance,
Dick
