Tach cable leakage
I'm getting some leakage out of the tach cable connection or the cable itself I suspect. This is on the 750 GT. My cable has 3 holes in the cable housing just above the connection at the tach drive on the horizontal cylinder. I suspect there isn't suppose to be any holes there so maybe this is the wrong cable on this machine. I don't
see any provisions for seals at the screw on connector.

There is a seal on the driven gear, It's the tiny one in the gasket set that everybody wonders about. You need to take the housing apart to replace it.

thanks, let me see if I can find a picture. I had the thing apart because the cable was stuck in it when I got the bike. BTW, do you have a schematic of the seal in place. I can't find it in the parts manual. They show the bevel cover with the tach drive but don't even show that it can be disassembled. I know it can.

+1 I read RockingM's original query to Husband and as he had just been fed, lunch, he was amiable this time and said what you have said.

Further update. Husband most amiable , asking "what is for dinner?". Allowed me to pull apart the new gasket kit we have, which did not have the seal in it . In an effort to assure that he get fed in speedy order, he obligingly went and got the appropriate bit featuring the tacho drive out of the box of bits (it was at the bottom of course) took a photo (which I have tried for more than an hour to upload and failed miserably, I might try again later) and then using the magnifying glass read me out the seal size. Which is 8 12 3. Being 8 for Inner 12 for Outer 3 for thickness (apologies if you knew this). He said "damn things are notorious for failing" but no, I am not taking it apart, it is my last good one". Hope it helps.
Cheers

wow, your husband is most agreeable, maybe it was cause he was hungry.
Thanks for the dimensions, I'll pull my tach drive apart today and hunt for that bit. I'm guessing when I pull the tach drive out of the bevel cover it's between the tach drive and the cover. And I had just made a new gasket for that cover when I put it on after getting the stuck cable out...

The seal fits outside and goes over the cable outlet. If you remove the cable and look inside the thread on the housing, you will see the seal.

got it! and it sure feels worn, I slide an o ring that fits tightly on the cable output and then a larger one that fits just underneath the cable flange when it's tightened. I haven't ridden it as yet but I'll see if that seals it. It looks like
some sort of better sealing system needs to be done and I think Ducati did so on the square case bevels.

Ha! Even though you have located your suspect seal and have now put in some O rings, which sadly, in the estimation of himself, won't do the job, but let us know if they do, I felt duty bound to upload the blasted photo. It has now stopped raining here and everybody seems to have abandoned their ark building projects, so the internet is better at uploading.
So, finally here it is!

well, that nice green seal you have there looks much nicer than the old dingy red/rust colored one that's occupying my tach drive. I'll have to go to Bevel Heaven and see if I can just get the seal cause that sucker can spit a lot of oil
on my foot and pants and down the side of the bike in 30 miles time....
