GT860 speedo/tach?
Hi people,
I've started a slow resto on a '75 860 GT with some mods. It wont be a 900ss look alike -although that would look good, but probably something more closer to the original GT concept without the daggy bits. It will have new electrics, including the ignition but hopefully without too much mechanical work needed. I've managed to source lots of little bits, but the speedo/tach set is proving a headache. I'm fairly sure that it originally had Smiths speedo and tacho, but all thats left is the brackets. Question is - I dont know exactly what the correct ones look like. Would appreciate if someone has a good pic of the instruments with the detail on the face so I could at least know what I'm looking for.
Beter still - if any one has a set they dont need ...
pic attached is the "before" - where I am now more or less.
thanks..

That's a grerat looking bike for a resto; good luck. The Smiths clocks are common on many period British bikes of the period, but make sure that you get the correct drive ratios for a Ducati. I don't know them off the top of my head, but hopefully someone will chime in. You can use Veglia instruments too and eBay is probably your best bet, unless you want new, in which case try Ian Gowanloch.

tacho-speed-o
I have a 1978 GTS, that came with ugly Smiths. I bought a nice set of Nippon Denso's at Syds Ducati in St Pete Fla.They are the ones ducati used on some Hailwoods and Darmas. They are very nice looking.

Thanks for your input. Interesting that not everyone likes the look of the Smiths - I kind of like the retro look of them.

IMHO the Smiths gauges look very nice, they fit the time of the bike being made.
