Front Calipers position - Question

Hey all,

I'm looking at a lot of pictures of Ducati's (900 Bevels) and wondering... on some, the front caliper is mounted up-front, on others it's backwards, while it looks like the whole positioning of the front fork is just different for that matter.

The manuals show that the caliper is at the up-front.

Why did people change it? it was was rear on my SSD but front on my SD while both used quite the same parts (Marzocchi 38mm).

Hi Lior, As far as I know, all the 900 calipers were mounted in front, until the 900S2/MHR from about 1983, which had them behind. Apparently behind the legs gives better steering, due to the weight being behind the steering axis. The choice is yours - original or modified.

The mod on the day of 70's ducs were to put them up front to help cool the brakes. In an old ducati newletter publication it was recomended. The newsletter was not an official Ducati publication, but a rider/owner sort of thing like this website, before websites!!

Mounted out the front is how they left the factory.
