Falcon 50 question...

I'm picking up a Falcon 50 in a few days... I've never messed with one of these before tho, so I was looking for a few pointers.

What kind of oil would you recommend? Is the same stuff I use in my other bikes good these motors?

What mix should I run?

Any other tips or stuff I should know before diving into this one would be greatly appreciated as well..

Thanks in advance for the help!!

a guy that i talk to that is very good with these duc 2-strokes says the 50 and 100 motors are near the same... same with the bikes too. do you have a manual? i have a bookmarken manual for your bike and a service manual for the 2 strokes
go to the second link there,
Oldtimer Workshop - Ducati
or check out this page
Ducati Moped and Lightweight Motorcycle Owner Manual

most of the info you need should be in there, good luck with the bike!

in terms of oil, whatever mix you run (i cant remember atm) i use Amsoil 2-stroke interceptor in the mix, and a Mobil-1 10w-40 race oil for the crankcase, before that i used 20w-50 amsoil motorcycle oil. as long as the crankcase oil says "wet-clutch compatible" your safe. the 20-50 made a bit smoother shifts because it was thicker, but i like to think because these engines have no dedicated oiling system for the gears and it just dips and splashes in oil the 10-40 would lube a bit better.

"Crankcase" is actually an inappropriate expression with two strokes. "gearbox or transmission" is better as the crankshaft is sealed away from gear lub and the atmosphere in general since the volumn of air within the sealed crank area is an important part of the induction system.

I too have a Falcon 50 and a Mountaineer 100. I use 20:1 dedicated 2-stroke oil in my pre-mix and 30 wt in the gearboxs.

Nothing fancy.
