Ducati SSD, FPS Rims - Max tire size?
Hey all,
What's the max tires size that can be used without any modification on a SSD frame with FPS rims?
Any recommended brand?
Thanks!
Lior.

The tyre companies recommend a max of 100/90 front and 120/90 rear. Any wider and I believe the narrowness of the rim affects the tyre profile. I love Avon Roadrider tyres, my bikes handle great with them and they make me feel safe!

IMHO the last thing you need on these bikes is a fatter tyre. The long wheel base just doesn't need wider rubber to lean over on. When set up for a corner, they won't move from the line and are fantastic handlers, but they are hardly a quick turner even with stock tyre widths.

tyre size info
I have a 1978GTS,when I restored it in 1991. It has 19" on front and an 18"on the rear. My son was into rice rockets at that time. He said I needed big meats on a sport bike. So he picked out a100/90/19" for the front and a 130/90/18" for the rear,The tires are weather checked and I would like some correct tires
for it, and does avon roadriders come in the size I need, to finish my second resto.

Hi captpaul, The tyre size will depend on the width of your rims. If your front is a WM2 x 19 then the correct size will be a 90/90 x 19; if the rim is WM3 then a 100/90 x 19 will be correct. The rear may be a WM3 rim, which means that a 110/90 x 18 will be correct, or a WM4, which will take a 120/90 x 18.

wheel/tyre size
Thanks for the info Ducout!
The front was a borrini wm2 record,= 90/90/19
But the rear is a DID 2.15x18, what wm does that trans late to?
I think Dominator sells Avons, I know Harley Davidson shops sells Avons, but I think they only use 16" tyres. give me a heads up. Capt Paul

The 2.15 rim is a WM3, so a 110/90 tyre is the biggest. I think that the sizes mentioned will still give plenty of grip, bearing in mind the era the bike was made. I have seen many racing lap records set at British circuits on Triumphs and Nortons in the Seventies on tyres of this size, but with much less grip!

I'm also a fan of the Avon Roadrider. I use them on my 74 750 Sport, but they are pretty pricey in Oz (I just replaced my rear). On my squarecases, I use Bridgestone BT45s, a very good tyre, similar cross section profile shape to the Avon, and lots cheaper (from my sources, anyway). I've had Metzlers before, and I have to say, I don't like the profile shape for lower speed city riding. It always felt like the bike was "tipping in" around a tight roundabout for example.
All that being said, to some extent, it might be what you're used to. I have a 40 year Ducati owner mate who is a much better rider than I, that loves Metzlers.

Avon roadriders
Thanks Duccout.
So the front WM2 19" 90/90/19 am26 roadriders,76.99$
Rear 110/90/18 am26 roadriders 89.99$ with free shipping, will set me back
$166.98. Is this a good price? And what is a good set of inner tubes (brand)?
I looked up inner tubes and not every tyre size has a matching tube size, Capt Paul
