Has Anyone Got a Bevel With The Wheels in Line?
I have a hunch that all bevel twins came from the factory with the wheels out of line. Both of my bevels were bought new and both had the wheels misaligned, in spite of 10 years between them. Motor Cycle News tested a GTS 860, which had misaligned wheels, and Graham Butler, a UK racer bought a 1975 900SS which had the wheels out of line.
Mine both have the back wheel pointing to the left when the rear wheel is centralised in the swinging arm. If the wheels are aligned by using the rear wheel adjusters, then the wheel is canted over to the right in the swinging arm, and the front sprocket wears on the inside face.
A UK OC member bought a belt 900SS which had misaligned wheels. He forced the importers to replace the frame under warranty, but this was not true either!
There was a story in one of the UK magazines about the Italian frame maker who was contracted to produce frames for the Norton Commando. Apparently, they all had the headstock twisted in relation to the swinging arm pivot. Any connection I wonder?
