350 Kickstart won't return
Have the bike kicking over beautifully, but last night a new wrinkle: hit the kickstart, bike fired up, but the kickstart wouldn't return to top. Shut the engine down, returned it manually (sounded like a ratchet), and then once at the top I could see it didn't have any "spring" to it. Thoughts?

How hard a job is that? I haven't opened the crankcase yet, just curious.

It's easy; the spring is under the left-hand cover.

Opened the cover, but there seems to be a washer locked in position over where the spring inserts into the crank. Am I misunderstanding this? I don't have to extract the entire kickstart shaft do I?

No worries, my bad: I slipped a chisel between the washer and the gapping sleeve, gave it a gentle tap, and it started sliding loose. After some fiddling with spring direction - the Haynes book illustrates it both ways - I'm up and running.
