72 Mototrans 350 electronic ignition

Anyone have any experience installing an electronic ignition in an old Ducati single? Where did you find one, and installation?

I see that you have no replies, so I'll chip in, even though my singles knowledge is limited. I have never replaced the ignition on a single, but there are loads being raced with Lucas RITA, Boyer-Bransden etc. I think any modern system would work great; do a net search. What about:Elektronik-Sachse - Motorradelektronik fuer klassische Motorraeder, elektronische Zündsysteme und Lichtmaschinenregler fuer Moto Guzzi, Laverda, Benelli, Moto Morini, Honda, Yamaha, Ducati u.a.

Thanks much. I went for a ride the other day - my first with the bike - and there was a little choppiness at cruise, which in my experience is either a bike running rich or ignition. Rich, I can fix, but I've always hated toying with ignitions and the first thing I do on old bikes (I'm used to Hondas) is junk the points. I'll look into these.

Yes, I think that you are right to junk the points, modern ignition systems are a world away from the old mechanical stuff. Luckily, there are lots of choices for Ducati singles and they are easy to fit. Another type I have remembered is Pazon Ignition in New Zealand.

I still run points ignition in all my bikes except the 450 race bike. You have a few options though.
The original style Ducati electronic ignitions (red unit) are still avaliable new from Ian Gowanloch at Italspares. Also have a look at the V twin setup Dyna ignitions, you can use half the setup in a single and they work great! and if you have a friend with a single you can share the cost
