Brambo Calipers... what to use? which to keep?

Hi,

Looks like I got few spare Brambo calipers... (about 12...)

As per your knowledge and experience, which should I use for my project? (The SSD that's gonna look like SS )

I added pics below with some of the numbers on the calipers.

Thanks!

Lior.

HI Lior, I would pick the 3 that match that have the best piston bores. You will need obviously, 1 left and 2 rights for your bike. I prefer the dual bleed screw type as they are the old type as compared to the single bleed screw type which are newer [these single bleed screw types are available new stull FYI]. It doesn;t look like you have any of the 'shaved' type where there is no brembo logo and a narrower gap requiring shorter pins and thinner pads otherwise I would advise keeping those...... The newer black aluminim coated pistons are smoother / better then the chromed silver steel pistons too.

Lior,

Are you having the calipers re-anodized?

Hmm... I thought about just cleaning them, rebuilding and painting it back to black. Why should they be re-anodized?

Lior.

Lior, anodized calipers will last much longer and will be "period correct", if that is a concern.

The key is finding an expert shop who knows what they are doing, if not, they can damage your calipers, especially the bores. I am restoring a 73 duc, and so far I have not found a shop that I trust to re-anodize my scarab caliper. Most finishing shops deal with new aluminum stock and have little if any experience with removing the old anodizing, polishing and then re-anodizing. If I can't find a shop that has a track record, I will paint them, but only the external surface area and stay away from the bores and internals.

Cheers! Cal
