Motolectric Battery Cables

Has anyone attempted to try out Motolectric type modded battery leads on an electric start bevel? I have a 900S2, which has a smaller battery than Darmahs and GTS's and is a real pain to start in cold weather. Would better quality cables help? Motolectric use pure copper, heavy duty cables and claim that starting issues are cured. Where would I get large dia 'pure copper' cable?

Battery cables

Buy what you want, just make sure that there are lots of very fine strands of wire in your big cable.A cable for a dc starter motor, will not work as well with a large cable made of 10 or 12 large strands, not enough surface area to carry good starter current.

A shop that sells welding supplies would be a source of good cable as used on arc/mig welders. I don't know if they would stock the smaller gauges of cable though. Also I've noticed the battery cables used on German cars seem to be of the fine stranded variety.A ground cable direct from the battery to the engine will also lower the resistance in the system and allow faster/more powerful cranking too.

I've been using the power cables car stereo guys use. Works pretty nicely as it's fine strand, very flexible, color coded insulator and you can pick up some good looking gold plated connectors while your there. I originally had planned on going with 4AWG on my Pantah track bike, but tested 8AWG as well and it worked perfectly, so saved a little weight there.
