What to do for resto?

Im just gettignt he last things done for my cadet 100 resto, i found the correct carb, air filter, a NOS speedo, and getting it bored out a bit and re-plated fresh,

i have a few questions as its my first resto of a bike,

-How would it hold up if i got the chassis and evrything that needs to be black painted? is it cheaper than powder coating??

-Those decals you buy from ducati places, the mylar ones or w/e thier called, can i apply them on the bike where they need to be and then get the parts clear-coated with the decals on to seal them? or do i put them on last?

-is the clutch supposed to be hard to pull? like unusually hard as compared to a bike of today? i just want to make sure i assembled it right,

thats all i can think of ATM, once the motor gets back and i start assembly i will surley have more,

and just as a little bonus, can anyone tell me what kind of bars this guy has on his cadet?

they look to have a bit of a curve when they go forward then go straight out for the controls, i want them im gonna try to go for that sporty cafe look instead of those raised bars i have on there now

Regarding decals, you can apply them before clear coat for durability or after. Same for pinstriping.

Paint done correctly will hold up fine. Here is a thread about it: Paint or Powdercoat?

There is a lot of info on the Old's Cool forum on advrider.com too.

These clutches are going to be harder then "modern" bikes with hydraulic clutches. Not sure when it is unusually hard.

The clutch cable is the most likley cause of a hard clutch, but don't dismiss anything else.

The bar style on that Cadet are called "clubmans" and are readily available from many sources. They give you the position and look of clip-ons, but are cheaper and simpler. You are aware that you'll need to find shorter throttle, clutch, and front brake cables than stock as a consequence, right?

When I did my Monza, I decided on powdercoat for the frame, swingarm an odd bit here and there. If I were to do it again, I'd just use paint. Looks more correct and just 'better' to me. And, if done properly, it is plenty durable. 3 cents for ya.

A gloss paint finish on the frame is not only more correct but looks million times better than powdercoat. Powderocat is too thick and lacks that crisp look only paint can give. If you ever saw the two side by side you would never powdercoat.

^^^agree^^^

Powdercoat has it's uses, but being as it's 40X as thick as paint, vintage frames are too big a surface for it- IF you value authenticity and originality in your restoration appearance. It looks way too thick and "plasticy" looking compared to paint.

well, im not going totally original on it, i know its not worth much anyways, i have all the stock parts, but im restoring and buying a few things different, like clubman bars,

i think i might just go with paint anyways, it just sounds easier too,

and i guess the clutch thing ,makes sense, the one i was thinking of compared to was a hydraulic clutch :0

im trying to take apart and clean the forks, on the cadet its like 3 slides, how do i get them apart?
