SS SD Bevels and carbs :D

Hey all,

Yeah, it's me asking questions again

Which carburetors the SD SS and other 900cc bevels came equipped with? Dellorto.. yeah... but.. PHF? PHM? 36? 40? which model had which?...

If you can answer or refer me to a source of that info I'll be very happy

Thanks,

Lior.

Hi Lior,
It's pretty simple; all 860-900's came with either 32mm PHF or 40mm PHM. The complicated bit is that some Darmah's came with 40mm and some SS's came with 32mm. The GT/S models always had 32mm.

Mine came with the pair in the pics below.

So in other words.... what's for sure is that in Ducati, nothing is for sure

I saw other parts in my Ducati that look like SS parts and I asked the previous owner that told me that they came with the bike and he didn't change them... looks like indeed Ducati used the parts that were 'on the shelf' at the moment

Lior.

I see you're learning, Lior! And the twins aren't as bad as the singles! Amongst the 50 or so SCRs I saw at World Ducati Week a couple of years back, I don't think any two shared the same model of headlamp (Ok, I exaggerate grossly, but ...)

Actually, the truth may be a bit more complicated than that. Certain parts weren't approved for use in certain markets; so a bit of mix-and-match is only to be expected. That said, however, there are many stories of people opening new bike crates at the time to find, for example, both Lafranconi and Conti silencers inside; and even sets of both 32mm and 40mm carbs ... Which is weird .

Also, at the end of their run, Darmahs were very much 'parts-room specials'. Many late Darmah SDs like yours, for example, use the slightly different SSD frame.

Ciao

Craig

Lior, do your carbs have ticklers or chokes? Strangely, PHM 40mm carbs had different jetting depending on the above.

Yes, 40mm with ticklers. You have a big job on there restoring that bike!
