Bare frame pictures - Beware - Nude ones! :D - Ducati.ms

Hi,

As I mentioned in a different thread I would like to convert my 1982 SD to a SS

I read that the frames are a bit different and I guess that there are other differences between frames of different models of our good 'ol Ducati...

Please upload pics of the Ducati bare frames of your Ducati (hence no motor no.. nothing or as less as possible) and any others as long as you know from what year and specific model it is, so me and many others I'm sure will be able to admire the pics and use that pictorial information for future restorations and projects.

The SS has a completely different frame to an SD, so I don't think that you will be able to use the SS sidecovers, although you can use the SS tank, with maybe some different mounting points welded to the tubes. The seat may be more difficult, due to differences between the frame's tail sections. Have you looked at the 'Ducati Meccanica' web site? there are some good examples of conversions on there.

Iior, if you haven't done so, type 'ducati meccanica' into your search engine; you should be able to find some frame pictures there along with tons of other information. Also, check out the recent thread on this forum about 'SS exhaust system', there are some good pictures there of a bare frame.

I took a pic of my frame. I think the SD (Darmah) and SSD (Super Darmah) frames are the same... You can see how the seat area of the frame is lower than the posted SS frames. Also note that up front, the downtubes have a brace from the downtube to the main backbone. I would think this would create a stiffer frame, and not a bad thing...

Also a shot of where I'm headed with my bike - still a long ways to go.
