1970 350 Scrambler single

Hi friends:

My bike is nicely restored and was running great until one day the ground wire from the negative terminal on the battery to the frame melted and caught fire.

Its a bit on the skinny side. Is insufficient gauge the culprit? The attachment point at the frame seems solid and clean.

Ideas would be much appreciated.

Or rubbing againts the frame could cause a short (given it was a hot wire) thus explaining the melting and fire
