keep it or sell it?
Hi All,
I'm having trouble with a decision. I have a 250 that I bought nearly 25 years ago. I worked on re-building it back then but stopped part way through the project...(life and all that). The guy I bought it from is asking about getting it back. My trouble is... part of me wants to keep it for another 8 or so years and when I retire I'll work on it again. The other part of me knows the old owner would love it back and work on it right away. Also I don't really know how much it's worth. I'd like to hear some opinions on the keep/sell decision and the value. (pictures can be seen at Picasa Web Albums - Peter Hudson - ducati).
Thanks,
-Peter-

Everything I've sold that had spark plugs - I later regretted...
Keep it if you can.

keep or sell
The only reason to sell it would be a financial landfall or you have no intention of ever doing anything with it.
IMHO you might get $3500-$4500 for it, just based on looking at the pics, a rough guess. I would keep it as these bikes are only getting more difficult to find.
If you think you might regret selling it, then don't sell it.
Good luck !

Keep it or sell it?
Looking at what you have to restore,Your looking at a huge amount to restore now and 3times more money to restore in 8-10 years, You don't even have a Ducati gas tank, the one with a plastic gas cap, is a 125 wards 2 stroke. You can almost bet your gonna need a crank re-build$$$$ And it goes on and on$$$$. I saved 8 good singles, To restore when I retire. I'd have to sell my retirement home to do 6 of them. Sell your good stuff on e-bay for 4- 5ooo$ and buy a decent good runner, and maybe paint it and tinker on a running Ducati

as one that has WAY too many projects that I will get to "one of these days" I have discovered that time is fleeting. sure I regret selling a few of the bikes I have owned along the way, but now I find that I have less time than I thought I would, less money than I thought I would and on and on. you haven't done anything to it in all the time you have owned it, are you sure you will really have the time in six years or so. be realistic to yourself, then make your decision based on how YOU feel, not others. Looking at single cylinder frame/engine page yours appears to be a 1965 model. I have Tom Bailey's Ducati Singles Buyers Guide and he rates them as a 10 for financial value. I reckon you'd really regret selling it in a couple of years. I did my MKIIID up nearly 30 years ago when parts were very hard to find but the internet and reproduction parts just makes it so much easier these days. Do eeeet.....

Hi Peter
the engine you have with the DM 250 M1 markings is a valueble Mach 1 engine . your spare engine has the DM 250 prefix on the other side of the
crankcase this makes this a four speed engine .
if this lot was mine i would not sell it but slowly started collecting part that i needed for the resto when they came along and the price was right

Thanks for the input so far...I didn't really expect a concensus but the thoughts shared are helping; as are the identification of components (I knew something was up with that tank) and relative values.

+1 on that thought!
You have 8 years time, and maybe on your retirement day you'll be riding it!
