I'am thinking of upgrading my 1098 to an 848..
Any advice on how I will be able to get rid of my 1098 ?? Nobody would be willing to get the 1098 now that this 848SF beast is out wrecking havoc.

DTC - new848 vs used 1098s
Hey, thought I'd piggyback on this thread instead of starting a new one.
I currently have a M696, love it, lots of fun but I find it a bit small I'm 6'2 215.
Currently sharing the bike with my wife, it was the only way I could get the bike in the first place. Anyway, looking at fully giving my wife the M696 and getting a Streetfighter.
Here's my question; I can get a beautiful used SF1098s for less than a new SF848. I am fine on an 848, ride my buddy's 848evo no problem but everyone says the 1098 is an untamed stallion. Like the idea of DTC.
Can I tame the 1098s with its DTC until I'm comfortable with the power? Slowly turn it down over time? I see most people keep it at lv3-5, nobody ever talks about what 8,9 or 10 is like.
Don't have a ton of road riding but I have car racing, serious downhill mountain biking and some MX under my belt and it seems some of those skills are easily transitioned. So far it is coming pretty naturally to me. I know I'm not ready for a straight up 1098 but with the SF1098s having the DTC, and knowing that the 1098 is where I want to end up...New SF848 vs used SF1098s?
Thoughts?..

The Streetfighter is a great step up if you're looking for a bigger more powerful bike. Funny thing is I actually think the Streetfighter is more comfortable then the Monster.
I honestly would go test ride the 848 SF first before you make any decisions. They are so different that only a test ride will be able to tell you which one is right for you. With that said, I love the 848 SF. It's smooth, linear and extremely easy to ride. The geometry and slightly taller bars are also much easier on your body. What type of riding do you do? If you plan to ride a lot in the city and have more stop and go traffic, I think the 848 11 degree motor will be much more to your liken. The 15K service interval is really nice too.
If you're riding is more back country and only have to suffer through the cities to get there, then I can see the 1098SFS being more fun as people. It just has more punch.
As a real world motorcycle, I would have to give it to the 848.
FYI, I decided to keep my 1098 SFS. It's in the shop getting an ECU reflash from Doug, matched fuel injectors, 20MM taller bars and 14t front sprocket with hopes to make the power down low smoother and to better match the riding position of the 848.
Good luck.

It's funny you mention comfort, I actually find my friends 848evo to be quite comfortable and I actually chose the 696 cause, somehow, I find it more comfortable than the 796/1100...
That's why I'm figuring the SF might just be the perfect seating position for me.
Yes, I do need to test ride them. My shop is still waitin for a SF848 demo... Ugh.

You don't actually tame the 1098. You either use the clutch alot or chip/reflash. Mine is chipped. I love it and wouldn't go smaller. The thing is, there is a pretty big difference between the bikes. You should figure out how you really ride and what makes you happy and make your decision from there. The 1098 is more comitted all around. If you are "all in" its more than worth it, and its what puts the smile on your face.

Get the real SF lol... You won't look back. I'm sure you have a level head on your shoulders, and yes setting the TC at lvl 8 will help you get used to it.

Get the ECU reflashed, put a 14T front sprocket on, and get one of the variable ratio throttle tubes from Motowheels. It gives a slower rate coming off idle, and gets quicker as the throttle is opened.
Then approach riding it conservatively, exploring the bike's potential cautiously until you understand what it's capable of.

So really I could go straight SF1098 instead of a SFs save 3000$-4000$ an just reflash ECU and put on a 14t and take my time...
I like the throttle idea, do you personally have it and like it?

The S option means you get Ohlins suspension, traction control, and carbon front fender and belt covers, also forged wheels. Your choice on that.
I have the throttle tube. It makes it easier to feather the throttle pulling away from a stop and in traffic, as does the 14T sprocket.
