Lucky
So today a policeman pulled up with his lights on when I was getting off my bike in a parking lot, and said he saw me popping two wheelies (one in the lower parking lot, one in the upper lot--which I can neither confirm or deny...). He took my license and checked my record. He gave me back my license and then let me off with a verbal warning... LUCKY!
Have you had any lucky moments lately?

In some states that can be considered reckless driving. If the police want to they can impound your bike and ticket you. Same as in some states 20mph over the speed limit is considered reckless driving and can have the same consequences. Not that I agree. Just putting it out there.

Parking lots are private property, not a public road. Police have no jurisdiction there. He couldn't write you for anything, that's why he didn't. Probably a good idea to stand there and be polite and act contrite, but the officer was totally powerless.
You know those stop signs in mall parking lots? Purchased and installed by the mall and meaningless. Ya know what happens when your car or motorcycle gets side-swiped by a no license/insurance/registration having illegal in a parking lot and there's no personal injury?
Not a Goddamn thing. "Have a nice day", says the responding officer as the illegal drives off into the sunset.
Fact.

As I explained to Gilly in my PM, last saturday whilst riding on the A5 trunk road (English-Welsh boarder) I was carefully overtaking a couple of cars and a van, alls going well and I'm along side the van when he starts turning into me. Well at this point I'm leaning on the drivers door and shitting myself when he looks out of the side window, sees me and I think he shit himself as well, he pulled straight back into his lane and I regain control of the bike and my arse, I've never seen a guy say sorry so many times and me, well I just thought that I was more than lucky and that some up there was looking after me.
The arm of my tricolore jacket had a large white patch which I've managed to get most of it off but there remains a mark were the inside armour rubbed on the door that wouldn't come out, it must be a reminder for future rides.
Geoff...
