Mix tires?
After close to 4K mile my SF-S needs new rear tire. I personally don't like the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III too much due to 2 reasons: so-so traction in cold and wet condition and it's round tire profile. I have been using Michelin Pilot Power 2CT on mySport Classic (and on my first SF-S before it totaled) and love it. Thinking of new set of PP2CT; but after looking deeper I found the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 - it has pretty good reviews, and it's similar to PP2CT in terms of usage - focus more on high performance street use than track use (correction is welcome). So I am toying the idea of just replacing the rear with the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2, and ride the bike with the 50% Corsa III front...
Is it a bad idea? Or should I just replace both? Consider both Corsa III and Rosso 2 are similar in shape and made by the same manufacturer, my guess it's OK. Either case I am not going to drop $230 on another Corsa III rear for sure... Any input is welcome. Please focus on the idea of mixing or new set; but not suggesting other brand or model of tires. Thanks in advance!

This is all you man.
They make sets for a purpose. That being said, are you going to track it? If not, than even aggressive street riding, the mix of your current front tire, coupled with a new Rosso rear should suffice. Lastly, you ride a Duc, you should be able to ante up and just replace both with a matching set. Why do people who ride expensive machines like the F1098S always want to cheap out on shit?
Up to you and totally your call.

I don't mix tires. I agree the the Corsa III's suck. You can get good prices on the Q2s and they are great for the SF.

I was in the same boat as you,I like to match my tyres and didn't want to take off a good front tyre so I went through a few rears till the front was thread was low (ish) then replaced with Rosso 2,mind you I was happy with the corsa 3's bar cold weather riding.

For what it's worth, I was able to pick a set of Dunlop Q2s for $240 shipped. Look thru the board sponsors there are awesome deals out there!

Wow, that's really being helpful. If I really cheap out on shit, I would just do it without asking or research. I used to be the one stupid enough to believe the more $ equals better tires. But the reality is that it's really depends on the usage and focused area. Sounds like it's a bad idea to mix - new set of tires is on the way

To be fair I think the Q2s have much better grip than the OE tyres but that's just me.

sportbiketrackgear.com has the Michelin Power Pure's on sale. I've heard nothing but compliments about the tire.

Depnds how you use your bike really and what your comfortable/confident with, I run a Pure on the front and a Road 3 on the rear, don't do track days & ride like a pussy . 37000k's on the clock in just over 2yrs and on to 8th rear tyre and still loving every minute of it.

I wasn't trying to offend you. I just find it incredibly ironic for people who ride expensive bikes try to save $100 for a front tire mismatch.
That being said achung, I am super happy you were able to dig deeper in your pockets to get a new set. For my next track day, I'll be buying a couple sets if Bridgestone BT-16's for both my F1098S and my 1198SP.
Which set did you end up buying? Inquiring minds wanna know!
