Why is my new Shorai battery only at 12.2V??
Question regarding the Shorai battery. I just installed a brand new Shorai LFX14A2-BS12 battery in my SF. Went out for couple of hours. The voltage on the dash was good, between 13.9-14.0V Shut off the bike, parked it overnight. And today, when I check the voltage on the dash, it reads 12.2V.. And Shorai instructions say" Do not allow discharge below 13.0V". So im like wtf?? I dont have any draining accessories on the bike, only thing is the stock red blinking light when the bike is shut-off. I still don't know what the light does.

Don't worry bout that my dash nearly always reads low bat, voltage reading will drop when ignition is on,if your concerned take reading at the terminals with the ignition off,I did have a battery issue in the first month of ownership, but I could hear it getting really lazy to start so I got them to replace it under warranty.

doesn't the voltage drop off in very cold weather and think picks up when warmed?

I believe that to be the case, and why Shorai themselves suggest "warming" the battery (lamps on, heated grips on, etc) prior to starting in the colder temps.

komodo, any updates. Your problems sounds SO similar to mine. except mine came off the BMS01 charger a few hours earlier.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Any battery is going to have a voltage drop after you take it off the charger or when you come home from a ride and turn the bike off. It's called resting voltage. As long as the resting voltage is not lower than 12V the battery is usually fine. The problems start when you put a load on the battery and the voltage drops down lower than acceptable and the bike either won't crank or cranks really slow. This is usually an indicator of a cell going bad in a lead acid battery. If you've never watched voltage numbers either with a hand held volt meter or on an instrument cluster these changes can be alarming to some people. People need to have a good understanding of the fluctuations and what is normal and how the bike sounds when it starts normally. I hope this helps.

That doesn't sound right. The Shorai in my Monster has been sitting for two week since last ridden and reads 13.35 volts. It has never been on a charger.

Does your monster have a flashing light on the dash? I know mine has a problem, because I was stranded.

Maybe I'm wrong with some of the information I posted above. It's possible he has a weak cell. Since Shorai states not to let the battery discharge below 13v. That could imply that they have a higher resting voltage then a lead acid battery. I'm not a Shorai expert. Does this mean that the Shorai batteries have a higher resting voltage? 13volts or more?
