Left switch block not working !!

Hi All,
I'm in Australia and purchased a 2010 Streetfighter last week with 2000 miles on it.

The left switch block has stopped working (or mostly working). The high beam, right blinker, cancel button and up button don't work. It got to this state after riding in the rain for about 2 hours yesterday ( but I suspect it had started having an issue the day prior). I've pulled the switch apart and the wiring loom connectors (all of them behind the headlight) and cleaned with contact cleaner. Fuses are fine.

There is a small electronic item in the loom between the switch block and the main loom, it looks like a capacitor, perhaps?
I suspect this is the problem.

There is no Ducati dealer within 300 km, so I'm hoping someone may have some advice.

Cheers
Tony

Not sure what the electronic item is. I took a very quick look at mine and at the wiring diagrams in the service manual, but I can't find anything other than connectors. Does it appear to be original equipement? Can you post a picture of it? Does the bike run?

While it doesn't seem to have been problem with SFs here, I know other model Ducs occasionally suffer from questionable grounds, particularly when they get wet/dirty. A bad ground can manifest itself in a lot of strange ways. You might check the condition of the ground on the engine crankcase (lower, left, at the front).

Also, you mentioned the fuses were OK. You might recheck them. Some of fuses power other additional items which are not specifically listed (for instance, there's quite a history of the tail lights wires developing a short and then keeping the engine from running).

You may have already did this, but follow the wires from the switch to behind the headlight and look for insulation worn thru. Like earlier post, vibration-induced wear has lead to intermittent groundings causing funky electrical issues.... good luck.

My friend had a similar problem. He washed his bike and socked it really good. For the day his high beams stayed on and turns did not work. After awhile it just returned back to normal.

Thanks all for the advice, you inspired me to keep looking. The Ducati dealer said it must be the switch block.
Anyways, I eventually found the issue. In the left switch block loom there is one power line that joins 3 other wires, these then power 3 separate switches in the block. This joint had come apart. A manufacturing fault - there was no crimp, no solder just heat shrink ...
Out of interest, there are other wires that have links in that same loom.

Below is a pic - at any rate, all works great now.

After the initial thread FlyingQ asked about the electrical device. I've also attached a pic of it. It is ziptied in place but it is the black boot with ridges on it - all original stuff.

Cheers
Tony

Actually, I can't attach a pic, or don't know how ... if anyone wants it, let me know ...
