Data Logging Thing
Can anyone with one of those data logging sticks on their SF tell me if they ever actually look at the data it provides? I have the chance to get one cheap and would like to know if anyone who uses them finds it of any use. Sometimes gadgets are so hard to resist!

I use it, only when I am at the track. FlyingQ on here does too. He probably uses his more than I do mine, so if you have questions about it, he would probably be better suited to answer questions.
But it does provide some very interesting feedback on a myriad of things.
Is your bike an S? I don't think it'll work, unless your bike is an S version.
I don't have any of mine uploaded to photobucket, but I do have someone elses' results. This is what it'll look like:

Looks like it would be interesting to look at occasionally but ultimately pointless for me. I have the standard SF but all the plumbing is there for this gizmo to plug right in. Obviously no DTC so that data wouldn't be available. I'm inclined to leave the plastic tray over the battery off and use the space for the toolkit and a multitool to sit.

Can you access the DDA function on the dash? If you can, it should work. It just won't show the DTC function.
That tray also functions as the battery hold down. If you remove it, you'll have to find another way to secure the battery.

The battery cables will hold the battery down quite happily in ordinary circumstances. It's not as though the battery slips out that easily anyway as it is a pretty snug fit.

I find it interesting. I only log some of my rides, though.
And LOL @ the DTC activations in that first graph. I must not be pushing my bike anywhere NEAR potential because I've only had maybe four activations TOTAL...at Level 8!

The problem with DDA is that there is no reference when exactly the Traction Control kicked in or when the Engine Temp became high. The output data from SoloDL connected to the bike's ECU is way more intuitive. Since the data coming from the SoloDL tells you not only when but also where.

Used in conjunction with a Contour GPS camera, you can sync the data together. There's another thread around here about gadgets and a pretty cool (although sorta expensive) bit of software called TrackVision that you could use to provide a HUD in your videos with that data (thanks Gilly).
Ultimately, the point is being a tech nerd and geeking out on maxing out to your MacBook Pro's potential. Also, very handy for track days if you want to analyze your riding (which combined with geeking together a video with HUD and GPS info would make you the ultimate track day nerd and filmmaker extraordinare).
I bought a data logger (like you for my base model) and have the Contour HD GPS camera. Just need that software. Believe it or not, I don't live in my mom's basement...

I could never get my PC to recognize the device. Finally gave up on it after a couple weeks of trying to flash the firmware.
