Interesting Bazzaz experimentation

So i've had the Bazzaz for a while now and have been very happy with the exception of one specific area. Parking Lot speeds, school zone, leaving the neighborhood etc. At like 10-20mph in first gear (2000-3000rpm's) there was still some slightly annoying surging. So this morning i decided to use the butt dyno to try and remedy this. I used the throttle position tracking on the Z-Fi to figure out that my problem was between 0-5% throttle. So i started adding fuel in 2% increments and then test riding around the neighborhood to see what happened. The highest adjustment was 29% increase at 2500rpm's! 90% of the surge is gone...and i'm afraid to add any more fuel. I think the residual surge now is a result of the combination of gearing and the natural "personality" of the engine not liking to lug at that load and low throttle position. Makes sense to me considering a lot of people have remedied some of the problem by changing to a -1 front sprocket. I'm certainly not an expert, but i think ive gotten it as good as it gets.

I thought you couldn't adjust the fueling below 3500 rpm?

definitely not true. you can adjust in 500rpm and 5% throttle positions from 1000rpm's up

Really? I am very pleased to hear that! I'll probably end up picking a Zifi-TC with an automap. Thanks.

I don't think you need the ZFI TC if you have the S with TC there already.
I have the ZFI on mine and it works perfectly right out of the box, we threw the bike on the dyno and the map that came wit it was perfect, I guess all the bikes are different.

Correct I do have the S but I find the Ducati TCS doesn't like my race tires. So I was going to try the bazzazz system.

Same here. Added a ton a fuel down low to get rid of stubborn surge. Feels great now.

Yes you can change fuel in that range.

I find DTC to be very abrupt and aggressive. I would rather use Bazzaz to manage that.

CHeers.

Yeah, it can be. Seems like when the bike is upright, it can be very abrupt. However, when the bike is leaned over, it's quite unnoticeable. Try looking at your DDA data at your next track day...it's surprising how often, and for such an incredible short period of time, it'll kick in...and you'll never know it. For a experienced racer, I'm sure it's sub-par compared to more refined systems. For a mere mortal like me, I find it to be more than capable.

Expand the mind. Not a fuel tank

Drive faster. Problem solved

Most 4 valve litre bikes are not happy at those speeds. At some point we have to make some compromises.

Call it poor fueling or poor low speed streetability, you still have the same result, just a much more amazing top end. Do we need Vtec to make us happy? Um, no.

Wonway...nice improvement with the avatar and expanding mind.

Sorry for the thread jack. Back to putt-putting, surging, fueling, gearing, traction controlling, and spending.
