Rizoma Star clucth plate install

Hi guys,

The missus is buying me a rizoma star clutch plate for xmas and just wanted to see if their is anything tricky about the install or anything I should watch out for. I have seen the post by one of the users which outlines the process (very good post) but thought I would check anyway.

Thanks

Pretty straight forward. If you read up on it, then you know to line up the marks.

+1 line up the marks. Easy Peasy job. I think the torque on the springs was 12lbs?

thanks very much, I did read up on the install and did take note of the marks as some people seemed to miss that step. I have a torque wrench small enough for the settings so that shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks

Phil

I am not familiar with the Rizoma pressure plate or it's installation, but...

If you are talking about the 6 bolts that go through the springs and hold the pressure plate on, be very careful. If you use 12 ft/lbs, you'll probably snap them off. From the Service Manual torque specs:

Dry clutch spring bolt
M5x0.8
Min Torque 5 Nm (3.68 ft/lbs)
Max Torque 7 Nm (5.17 ft/lbs)
Recommended Torque 5Nm (3.68 ft/lbs)

Just snug them up with a t-handle wrench...not tight. The springs keep them under tension and will help hold them in place. They are prone to seizing/breaking if they were previously tighten way down and have been in there for a while. I also use a very light coat of grease on the threads when re-installing them. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the info, yeah I did think that 12lbs was a pretty excessive, from the service manual I have and from what I have read in previous posts 5nm was what I was going to apply.

Cheers for pointing that out.

12lbs is not sufficient information... torque requires a length unit. 12 pound inches is not enough, and 12 pound feet is way too much. So total fail (not trying to be harsh, but if somebody listened to your advice, they could do damage to their bike, so please check your numbers before posting something like that...although, people should know when they realize 12lbs is not a torque...)
