Dead Battery
Pardon me for posting a noob question, and not using the search option.
this morning as i was about to take my bike to work, the bike wouldnt start, the battery was almost dead, tries to use the ignition switch a couple of times.. and it was completely dead.
the weather here is not cold at all these days, mid 30s in the morning and around 15 degree celcius at night. i havent started the bike in 2 weeks at all.
the bike is pretty new ( 2011 ) and hence the battery as well, is this normal?
how do i prevent this from happennig?
and easiest way to recharge the bettery ?
plz plz do tell me know what is the best way to jump start
wouldnt be able to thank u guys enough

I would take it as an excuse to get a lightweight cell battery.

(1) Don't run the battery completely dead or it will sulphate and therefore become junk.
(2) Just put it on a trickle charger (battery tender) overnight and you'll be good to go in the morning.
(3) If you're gonna jump it, be careful to hook up the leads in the correct order or you'll get sparks.
Cheers,
j

oleary is right..you should buy a trickle charger (battery tender) and hook it up with your bike when specially when you are not using it for a long period of time...that's also a subtle way of your bike telling you to ride it more often...

see if you can push start it in 2nd gear?
It's not normal for the battery to die so soon.

Also remember that hotter temps are worse for discharge rates. Batteries will drain out sooner when warmer out than when it's freezing.
That said had the same issue with mine. Dealer tested it and said it was ok but I still don't trust it, to the point I keep it on a tender at all times now.

up and about
update on the battery,
tried to jump start in 2nd gear, it wouldnt start.
took the battery in , and the guys at ducati said it was completly dead, and i could physically see sulfur.
got a new battery, similar that the bike came with.
also got a battery tender, called optimiser 3 , didnt get time to do research on this, so took the dealer`s word for granted.
i have left the tender on the bike ever since i got the new battery , [B]is that alright?
i couldnt figure out how to install in such a way that it is easily accessible yet stays concealed.
here is a pic of what i managed to do.

Excellent choice kachhhing.
All the new bikes that are sold from my local dealership have an optimate lead fitted when PDI is done so as to give the customer the incentive to keep the battery in tip top condition.
