Ducati dealer will reset it for you when the bike gets serviced next time. The whole idea behind the indicator is to remind to go to a dealer to pay your dues.

1) pay money to dealer to do it.
2) purchase TechnoResearches VDST software/cable
3) DucatiDiag, $25 for cables from the interweb and JP's software for FREE!

I saw Gilly sig awhile ago and checked out duactidiag. You will need to order 2cables then download the program. like Gilly says, it free and you can donate for the program if you want. I ordered the cables but still waiting for one of them.
Program looks simple enough and can mostly what the vdst can, If not everything.

It does EVERYTHING VDST does. If you look at the number of users JP has, you can tell that based on that and the LACK of complaints. He has delivered good software. The only catch is: You have to upload your map to him and you have to buy the two cables and the license file he sends you is tied to that particular ECU. If you have multiple bikes, he sends you a license for them all so long as you upload the maps for his repository. Best Damn Deal I've Ever Heard Of... PERIOD.

I've already got my cables and software installed... Just need to put the bike together to try it out.
I need this to reset my TPS since I've had my ECU flashed. Hoepfully it'll work as advertised.
Got the cables for maybe $16 total on eBay. I think one was $6 the other $10. Came from China so it took a little while but it's the correct cable. Just need to look it up a little.

If you have not sent your map to JP, you should effort that. That way you have your license file and nothing to be waiting on. Your battery does need to be in good order since the flash download takes some time. Turn around time with JP is usually very short. Drop the license file he sends you into the DucatiDiag folder and you are good to go.

Good to know. I'm not really pressed by time, the bike is in parts right now so this is gonna be the first thing to do as soon as the frame's back on the engine.

Ya I think it's a matter of convenience. I didn't mind having the dealer doing it but since they are about 50mi away I figured this would save me trouble, especially for $16.
