Question DP Comfort Seat - Waterproofing

I’ve done a fair bit of searching but could not find anything more on the subject apart from few mentions that it has been done.

What I want to know is:

- Do you have a DP comfort seat & have you waterproofed it in any way??
- What product/method have you used to waterproof it?
- How happy are you with the result, good or bad??

If you have any pictures would be a bonus too if you have them.

Thanks..

I have heard of using a Scotchguard type of product, but have not tried anything myself.

Subscribed because I'm tired of a wet ass.

Possibly a silicone spray? Depending on the foam, it could be futile. Once a sponge, always a sponge.

I nominate Wonway to Scotchguard his seat and then report back to us. Can I have a second?

I used a product I got from a shoe store called water proofer. It did give the seat a slightly different feel, but has not seemed to have any adverse affects. I haven't had a good chance to test it as the bike hasn't seen rain since I used it.

But I just did a little test with a water spray bottle. I sprayed the seat and let it sit for a minute or two, took a picture (the water is beaded up, not just flowing into the seat).

Then with 2 paper towels folded into one I dried off the water then took another picture.

The seat feells pretty dry, but maybe a little damp. I don't think the water seeped much past the top layer.

Since the seat cover is like neoprene, I can't say this will totally keep it from letting water seep into the foam, but I do suspecct it will do a reasonably good job.

After the treatment, the seat felt a bit more slick, but you still don't slide around on this seat like you can on leather or stock, (not by any margin).

I sprayed this stuff on very liberally.

Even if the surface is dry the stitched seams allow water from below to seep out, so any solution will not be 100%. Perhaps a pair of these may help ;-)

So is it the seat cover that gets wet, or is the seat foam not a closed cell foam? I also looked up the sof sole product and it contains no silicone, so it has some other blocking agent to repel water. I'm do think if it is raining and you are riding and water is puddling on the seat, it's going to get wet from body movement flexing the seat cover.

The problem is after it is sitting in the rain or after washing (should you be one of those people like me ).

I looked it in same light as wonway. If I drive it in to work, unexpected rain comes... will I be able to dry it off, or will it soak thru.

I think this approach works for that. If I get caught in rain all bets off, I'm riding with wet arse either way.
