Streetfighter Vs. S4Rs

Hey guys,

For those of you who have ridden or owned both bikes, what are your impressions about it.

What advantages does the SF have over the S4rs and Vice versa.

ie. 998 vs 1098

style

ride

comfort

handling

etc.

I know some of the observations might be personal taste some more objective than others.

I have a few on top of my head but wanna hear you guys out first.

I have them both so its not a "should I get this or that" thread. Just want to know what you think about those.

Those who havent ridden either can chime in too if wanted.

I can't talk about the S4Rs and SFS comparison - but I know there was a huge difference between my Monster and the SFS. I had a chance to ride my old Monster a bit ago and - excluding the power difference - the difference in feel is huge. I had a complete suspension upgrade done to my Monster just before selling it and still there is no comparison between the two. I was no longer comfortable on my old Monster. :-(

I am yet to do the suspension adjustment for the monster. I never thought it would make that much of a difference but it totally did on my SF so I guess that the change would be more drastic in the S4Rs considering it has ohlins and I have the showa forks on the SF. Lets see. As soon as I get a chance I will put in the 14t sprocket on the S4 and do sag adjustment.

I've had both, I like the styling of both bikes but I think they say something very different from each other.

Comfort: I could ride both all day long but on the SF the reach to the pegs is far more comfortable than the monster. I'm tall so I feel much more at home on the SF.

Ride is a matter of suspension and setup, my SF is a little harsh on the street because I have it set for the track.
My Monster was better on the road but this is all dependent on the individual and how his bike is set-up and has little to do with the different bike.

Both bikes handle very well but they are different. Monsters steer more quickly in tight turns but they are twitchy and unstable if disrupted in corners or at speed.
I added a damper to my bike and that helped.

The SF is stable both at speed and in turns and it has no tendency to twitch or wiggle when disrupted by a road imperfection.
However it is a little more stiff at slow speed and some riders complain that the steering takes more effort.
Some owners change this by adding wider bars. That makes the bike turn with a little less effort but to me it reduces the stability.
I personally like to use a little more muscle and have the bike remain stable.
I don't do a lot of slow speed tight turns so I don't notice the turning effort as much as other riders might.

All in all both are fantastic bikes but the taller riding position, the styling, and the extra power make the SF a better bike for me.

That's not to say I'd never own a monster again but it wouldn't be my first choice with the SF available.

Although both naked bikes, the SF is going for the street fighter genre(duh, stating the oh so obvious) and the S4RS more of a cafe racer genre.

I am a fan of the S4RS but just didn't like the styling of the tank that much. If the tank was more like that of the superbikes (999 or prior) it would have been better received by me.

I am not a huge fan of the street fighter genre so to speak. I really dig the cafe retro stuff out there. I am glad the SF does not look like some of the abominations I see in the street fighter world

Hmmm never thought about that before. I wonder how a more 999 styled S4rs would have looked like. I dont think the sharp looking style would go along with the round classic headlight though. Maybe with the headlights that my S2r1k used to have.

I always wondered if doing clip ons on the monster instead of handlebars would help with stability in corners and forward weight bias.

I was also thinking about engine-wise which I notice a big difference.

Power difference is noticeable but more like the feel of the engine.

ie. Bottom torque, top end power, smoothness, etc.

Something I really like about the 998 engine I feel its got lots more attitude than the 1098. Revs about the same but when the valves open in the higher range it feels like its ready to kill! You know when you are pushing it and it tells you.

Instead the 1098 engine pulls and catches you by surprise not letting you know until you have the wheel in the air. It doesnt have that unique rumble that the 998 gives past 7k RPM or so.

With all honesty I know the 1098 is more powerfull but I like the 998 characteristics more.

What are your thoughts on this?

BTW I think the S4Rs is beautifull in a classy way even more so than the SF but the streetfighter looks just plain mean and badass.

It also depends on whether you have a full system on the Monster as it adds almost 20hp and transforms the bike

i'm sorry, but i doubt there is any kind of single mod outside of turbo/supercharger/nos that would add 20 hp to a bike.

Own neither, almost bought the s4rs in july but decided to hold out for 848sf. Looks alone i really love the last generation monsters but thought i wanted something that has really good handling. not to keen on all the digital displays these days, but if i wanted a top of the line handling and technologically modern bike i have came to the conclusion digital/plastics are here to stay. I have been eyeballing a black 05 s4r with 15k miles on it for while on craigslist. As i mentioned i love the monsters classic looks.
