Clutch installation removal HELP needed
Ive been going back and forth about installing my own slipper clutch. Anyway read loads of forums and guides and I have got so far and now I am stuck. I have removed the pressure plate, centre nut and hub and I am left with the attched pic. How do you remove this, the star shaped large hub thing? and what tools are required?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Odd that the cush drive of the hub came apart; normally it stays together and you just pull the hub off the spline. No matter, its just a good fit to the splined shaft, so a bit of penetrating oil, heat and some tugging should get it loose. If not, you could (carefully) try a gear puller.

The only way I could get mine off was find the biggest Alan key that you can hook behind it by sliding it in the gap and turning it 90 deg. Then I put a mole grips on the other end of the Alan key and tap it with a hammer. I did this all the way round the edge and eventually it came off.
Hope this helps mate.

Troubled otter's method sounds a bit less invasive than my method but I spot welded one of the hooks from my puller to it the hooked it up to the slide hammer and it popped right off. Need to be real careful with the heat though.

OK, not knowing much about the slipper clutch setup - understand the theory though - can you still run an open clutch cover when using a slipper clutch?

I was wondering about the heat. Was planning on using a heat gun but was worried that I perish the rubber O rings inside?

Managed to get it off eventually. Used mole grips to hold onto one of the stars and then hit the end of the grips with a hammer away from the bike to pull it off. Took a few hits and I was creful to cover the bike with sheets first but it worked. Oh I did spray sum WD40 on before hand and let soak overnight. Not sure if this made any difference though.
