X11 or X12?
Still trying to figure this out,
X11 brand new, manufactured 09/08 - $380 shipped
X12 brand new (this year or last year manufactured) - $680 shipped.
Graphics on the X12 look cooler and it's SNELL2010 (which also means porky)... just tough to swallow the $300 price difference.
Thoughts?

It is thought that helmets last for 5 years so you only have 2 years left.... On the other hand, i've been speaking with a shoei distributor/representative at proitalia and he suggested to get the x12 only if i really planed on racing because it is very noisy due to the vents setup...the idea behind this helmet is to keep you cool under serious activity on the bike....considering our bikes have no wind protection, this is one interesting issue....hope this helps!

Rf1100
Cheaper than the x12, SNELL, more comfortable and less noisy than the x11 or x12.

Right but then still again more expensive that the X-11 that I could get.
X-11 vs RF1100 is another story... I did try an RF1100 last weekend and it fit pretty well with the liner a bit more comfortable than the X-12 though the X-12 shape was dead on.
Not planning on racing but may end up doing the occasional track days.
I've been told by Shoei that the lids have a 7 year manufacturing warranty so according to them it can sit for 2 years on a shelf before being sold and still have the full 5 year "use" coverage.
I just can't imagine another 1 or even 2 years of storage would do significantly more to deteriorate the EPS.
Warranty wise, it's unlikely that I would need to call in for spare parts anyways (I've had to get a pair of replacement shield mechanism once with my last lid after a year or two).
Temp wise, I do pretty much all my riding in the summer (warmer months) where it easily gets in the 90s, sometimes low 100s here (and humid) so venting would probably be welcome. Can't imagine the X12 being miles from the X11 (low speed is said to be better on the older model).

Good discussion, because I have the X12 in large and it is too big for me. I wore it once and it does vent well and was comfortable, just loose.
I was asking $350 shipped, and thought it was a good price, but no interest.
I ended up buying a Drudi in medium and it vents well, just as well and fits perfectly. Retail was $700 !

X-Tweleve. I bought one and love it. Fits me perfect, it's extremely comfortable, has the Snell 2010 safety rating. It also has the quick release cheek pads in the event of a crash. It vents extremely well and isn't that loud at all. It's much quieter than my Shoei RF1000. Also going down the straighaways at the track at 250km/h on the SF, my head doesn't move one bit. It's stays dead nuts straight. The rear spoiler of the helmet does a great job!

As far as noise goes, don't you guys ride with ear plugs on the highway especially? The constant hum of the wind is soo bad for the ears I don't care how quiet the helmet is, you should always wear plugs.

I don't wear earplugs for street riding, highway or otherwise. I tried it a few years ago but the feeling of isolation and disconnect with my surroundings was not pleasant in the least.
More than once I've been cruising down the interstate in moderate traffic getting ready to change lanes and, after the usual head-check and mirror-glance, heard the rumble of tires or an engine accelerating that kept me from switching lanes. Re-check and find that some joker decided gun it or whip out around me at the last second.
I'm not going to throw alot of "what-if's" around but I'd say if I'd had earplugs in all those times at least one of them would have ended badly for me.
I have my hearing checked annually (company policy) and if it ever starts to deteriorate I guess I'll re-evaluate then, but for now the sound of the bike and the wind is a part of the enjoyment for me.

i think we're getting a little off topic. I wasn't really wondering if the x11 or x12 were too loud of didn't vent enough but rather whether the $300 price difference between the two justify spending more on a new lid.
As I mentioned in the first post I could purchase a brand new X11 that was manufactured in 2008 for $380 or a 2012 X12 for $680. The X11 is still a good lid IMO and even if already a few years old I can't think that the EPS would just go bad like this especially if sitting in a storage room.
Any other thoughts? Is the X12 really that significantly better than the 11? I read and heard that it wasn't... can't imagine that the SNELL2010 would do that much over the 2005 version (maybe for larger lids).

The differences between the two are small in regards to actual protection in the event of a crash, and how each one fits your particular head shape has as much effect on it's ability to reduce injuries as anything.
I've always chosen helmets for fit first, assuming they were all from reputable manufacturers (which yours obviously are).
It seems you've tried on the X12, but I don't see if you've mentioned sliding the X11 on your noggin?......I wouldn't spend $10 on a helmet that I haven't tried for fit, unless of course I was to purchase a second unit of a lid that I already owned.
After trying them both, buy the one that fits the best.......if there's no discernible difference then it's really up to you and your wallet.
Personally, I think the X11 is a great buy at that price and I don't think I've ever kept a helmet in-service for more than 2 years, either because I crashed in it, had it knocked off onto a hard floor, or just wanted a new graphic....so the 2 years on the shelf is a non-issue from my point of view.
my 2 cents (and on-topic!...where's my gold star?)
