1198 engine transplant into current SF?
Anyone try this yet? I know this thing is a power monster already, but it would be interesting to see if it could even fit in the frame...
What are your guys' thoughts? Would it work, would it be worth it...?
After all most of us are always after more power

Should of added that the reason I put this up is because it doesn't seem like ducati will make a 1198SF

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a 1198 SF. I thought that was confirmed??

The engine mounting points, size, and all of dimensions are exactly the same. In-fact the SF uses the 1198 crank cases.
It's a direct drop-in

FML... Thx Marc, my flame suit is on! Flame away! Lol
Thx for the input flyn, I guess you would need a SBK gauge cluster unit as well because I'm sure the electronics part of it wouldn't just plug and play...

If you use your wiring harness ECU and all of the electrical components from the SF its a plug and play deal. The engines are exactly the same.
But you will probably have to do a flash tune to your ECU.
Somebody like Redline or Doug who can tune and reflash.
Well, the injector intake venturis will be different and you may have to use the ones from the SF so they will match the volume of the airbox
But I'd be prepared for some experimentation in that regard

What is an expected lifespan for the stock 1098 engine? Sure it depends how the bike has been used and maintained. But still, what would be "an overage" mileage when it is considered the motor is getting close to be rebuilt or replaced?

If I do blow my motor, I will put in an 1198. Why not. Would not be an original numbers matching bike so no need to put a 1098 back in. Not that the SF will be overly collectible anyways....
