Oil pressure warning light came on
this past Saturday out riding... all seemed ok (priort to this and 12k plus miles)
stopped for a break and upon start up to head home I started to hear strange growling noises out of right side of engine (oil pump side) and then the oil pressure warning light came on.... got her home (2010 SF S)
Next day, decided to change out the oil/filter and found excessive shavings and polymer plastic material. oil pressure light still on after change and rumbling noise... Called dealer yesterday and ran it up to them. Kicker here is officially my warrany ran out a little over two months ago.... They are going to try the warranty paths first...
In addition to this major concern these also hit in the same time frame... found out the alternator stopped charging, rear brake pedal on first press goes all the way down, tank expansion (planned on taking into dealer for just this), left side engine cover has stress crack (leaking oil)

The way you worded your post it sounds like you heard this grumbling noise, but still continued to ride the bike home with the oil warning light on. Why??? Then you said you ran it to the dealer. I'm just going to guess that means road it there and not trailered it there. Why??? Once this engine noise was heard and the light was on the bike shouldn't have been road another two feet and should of not been started again. Your engine has damage and you more than likely did a lot more damage to it by not shutting it of instantly. It's probably pretty far gone especially since it seems that you kept riding it. I'm sorry this happened to you.

i thought that you didnt drive the dike home with the oil pressure light on but trailered it back home!!
man if you drove it back home while hearing noises from the engine then you should expect serious damage! :-/

The light going on and off is very important. The engine should of been shut off at this point and never started again until a diagnosis could be made. If it where me and the oil pressure light started flickering I would of pulled the clutch lever in and hit the kill switch and coasted to the shoulder. I would push my bike to a safe place and truck it home. The noise you heard was also an early indicator of something in the engine getting ready to let go. You may have saved the engine more damage if you would of not road the bike anymore when the engine noise barely started. I have a feeling this could get expensive. Sorry about that.

Doesn't sound good. My condolences. I sure hope they can perform the repairs under warranty. Good luck.

Bad and Good news here..... take the worst first.
Duc Dealer in Central Jersey had time to check out issues....found out Crank Bearings started to disintegrate... metal shavings etc.... internal damage all over... Submitted request to Ducati - waited two weeks back and forth
Late last week Ducati finally came back and OK'd 100% of engine work (was over on warranty by 2 months).... VERY HAPPY that Ducati stood behind their product even technically out of warranty.

Glad to hear about your bike being repaired. I take it that she will be ready to ride come spring next year. Besure to break it in the right way.
