Lightbulb Michelin Power Pure for SF

Hi All. My Pirellis are approaching the end of their shelf life. Having taken the 'other' bike, my trusty old R1100RS up to Scarborough a few weeks back, I rode with several mates, one of whom had a Hypermotard 796 fitted with a set of new Michelin Power Pure tyres. he was waxing lyrical about the handling qualities, grip etc, so I have these in mind as replacements. Any other SF owners running these - feedback v much appreciated.

FWIW I had a set of Pilot Power 2CT's fitted to my BMW R1200S - v impressive tyres - but the Beemer is a long way down on the Street on power?

i just fitted my sf with a set of pilot power one's, and they are wonderful. Lots of confidence, not lots of time in between replacing tires lol. the pilot power pure has a larger spot of harder compound in the center to improve mileage over the power ones, and the power 2cts has a longer mileage life than the pures

I've been through 2 & a bit sets on mine, really impressed with them. Running one on the front with a Road 3 on the rear at present. Ran one on the front with a Road 2 last set and changed the front @ 13000k's & was still confident in the wet.Long story short did nothing ugly & got 5000k's out of the rear, original Corsa III where toast @ 3,000k's

1098 here, but my rear Power Pure has been a disaster from day one.

First intersection, in traffic (10mph maybe?), rear slid otu from under as if on ice. Pissed, but I'll assume it's my fault for not being careful enough on a new oily tire. Although I'm not sure how much tamer than 10mph it can get.

In terms of feel, I had the OEM Dragon Supercorsa before, the bike felt as if on rails. With the Pure, it wallows and just doesn't feel planted. Actual grip is good since I can get to the edge easily, but it just doesn't feel good.

Extremely sensitive to surface change. Paint, even on dry road and constant speed makes the bike fidget about. Not pleasant.

Over the last 5k miles, I've played with pressure and all, but I still don't trust it. It'll slip out from under me when I don't expect it. I'm just cruising about slowly ... and slip, not enough to crash, but enough to pucker up and go "goddam $hit tire".

Maybe I've had a lemon, but I'm not to the wear indicators yet and it's gonna go up in flames.

I'm replacing it with a Metzeler M5 this week, I've heard great things about it.

I run Pure's on my track bike (GSX-R750) and love them. No issues with grip, but I take it relatively easy for the first lap or two of each session. No scrub-in required for a freshly-mounted tire. They are very sensitive to pressure changes, so you need to keep an eye on that, just like any other tire. I've never used them in the wet, but I've heard great things about them.

I'd stay away from the Power Ones for street use. There are two compounds, competition and non-competition. The comp's require warmers but the non-comp's do not. You'd have to be a pretty aggressive street rider to get the non-comp's up to temp and keep them there...and they're awful in the wet no matter waht.

Besides the weight saving that was impressive for a tire, I didn't like the Pure. I'm currently on Power 2CT for the rest of the year. They suit my current use for the bike (touring and commuting) and are much more predictable.

Next spring, returning to Dunlops after a seven-year hiatus. We'll see how that goes.

Are you getting good mileage from the 2CT? I totally wasted a good new set of Dunlop Q2s this past spring and summer. They're wonderful tires with great grip, and I had planned on doing several track days with them. For various reasons, I didn't do 1 track day this past season. However, I did do a lot of street riding and didn't make the most out of the Q2s. The centers are getting pretty worn approaching 4000 miles. I'd like to replace them with something that has better wear characteristics across the center section and a longer life for general street riding.

YMMV

So far, I put 4000 km on the 2CT and the rear is barley starting to change shape in the center. This being said, I rarely ride intentionally in a straight line because I hate it. I tend to avoid highways and very rarely accelerate hard in a straight line either, it's just not my thing.

For turns, they're a good sport touring tire with plenty of feedback but, with my cage accident (broken ribs) and Crohn's disease ruining my summer I haven't had the pleasure of even getting to the edge of these tires.

For some reason, it felt easier last year on the Rosso II and the Pilot Power to shoot for the edge.

Thanks Fellas, a great cross section of views. It's actually sounding as though the 2CT's could be a better bet. Thanks for all feedback.

I have Power Pures on my S4RS and they are awesome. Highly recommended.
