Magnesium Paint

It may sound silly but I want to paint a left side engine cover (alternator engine cover) in magnesium. The goal is not just to make it yellow but to bring it's appearance as close to magnesium surface as possible. I would appreciate any hints on what approach to take. Any recommendations what paint, what technique, what solution would work best is highly appreciated !

Since magnesium looks very close to aluminium, you could simply strip the paint off the part, finish it the way you want (polish, brush, etc.) and then coat it clear.

Don't mistake the gold colored paint that Ducati uses to signify their magnesium parts for the actual color of magnesium.
Magnesium is a mixed metal with much of it's content being aluminum - it's silver in it's raw form and can be polished to a bright finish just like aluminum.

I would like it make just like Ducati ones. Here is the idea:

And the next while not being the alternator engine cover has a "right" look to it:

Maybe you could take the bike by a body shop and see if they can sample & match the color of the magnesium cover. Like a carsmetics or such...

Yeah, that color is a coating of some kind. Probably paint. Ducati and others used to paint magnesium parts a flat green/grey color.

That is a good idea. I think the bike would look a little lighter with the light colored engine covers. Magnesium or an engine grey paint would probably work well. The current black color by my opinion unnecessary create an impression of heaviness. I actually consider painting the covers with the grey engine paint as well.
