Just bought a used cyclecat offset titanium colored one on ebay for $45.. it was the only "used" one on there at the time and was listed for 848//1098/1198, but the fitment is the same..

also another brand's cnc offset direct gp shifter of a different design on ebay for $35... Ducati Reverse Shift Lever for 996, 998, 999, 1098, 1198, etc - NEW - CLOSEOUT | eBay
If by chance, you are open to the "straight" gp direct lever that SSR sells, I have one coming, brand new in black.. $40 shipped.

yeah, that's what i was worried about when i ordered my set.. and I didnt want to pay $100 for another one(as neither do you) so i found a used one on ebay..

the guy I bought my set from(gas cap dude - the black label ebay SSR) said he rarely had people contact him with issues with the shifter rubbing the fairing, have you already tried the non offset lever? Either way, it's probably preferable to have the offset piece just for the sake of not have to awkwardly twist your shift foot inwards to reach the lever.. i took one look at how the new lever "should" fit, and decided i better order an offset one.
